How to Work Out if I Need a Certification or Verification Audit When Applying to Become a NDIS Registered Provider?
When determining if you will need to undergo a verification or certification audit you will need to determine:
-
What are your current qualifications
-
Are you in the process of completing any qualifications that you will want to use to provide supports
-
What sort of support are you wanting to provide as a NDIS Registered Provider (e.g., Taking clients out to appointments, running therapy groups, community nursing care etc).
A verification audit is suitable for:
-
Individuals who are already overseen by a governing body (e.g., a Registered Nurse who has AHPRA Registration) and are wanting to provide services already in their current scope of practice.
-
Individuals who are only wanting to provide low risk supports or services that are generally considered to have limited or no participant contact such as providing personal mobility equipment or a tradesman.
A certification audit is suitable for:
-
Individuals who are wanting to provide high risk supports due to the work being considered as ‘hands on’ (e.g., one to one care and support) and are not currently overseen by a governing body (e.g., A Disability Support Worker wanting to start their own NDIS business). In this instance, the NDIS required a certification audit as you are not currently registered through an approved Australian governing body and therefore will need to undergo a more thorough auditing process to determine your suitability to become a NDIS Registered Provider.
